Choose Water Resources

It is important to us as a profession to advocate for a reduction in sugar intake in the public arena. Please find resources on this page to help you with this goal.

Our current aim is to reduce access to sugar sweetened beverages and junk food in council owned areas, schools and hospitals. A big thank you to Dr's Moira Smith and Anna Fergusson for their development of a health strategy. In addition, Dr Rob Beaglehole has been pushing the matter well before we as an association had addressed the issue so a big thank you to him. Dr Simon Templeman and his team are currently underway in a push to implement this in colleges around the region. See our committee list in the link above to contact him if you would like to help.

You can help as an individual by writing to your local council to lobby for a removal of SSBs from council buildings and council owned grounds.

Schools:

A large thanks to Tina Godbert and their action group "Choose Water Hawke's Bay" for their resources and documents they have provided for us available to download on this page. I have left them unaltered as each school you as a practitioner and health advocate approach will be best suited by altering the content to target the individual school. Just download the word documents and edit them ad-hoc, save them on your machine, print and sign. This website is public, so the schools can have access to the documents as-is.

Healthy Eating in Schools

Dr Beaglehole has put together this document that is in use at his child's school as an official policy around healthy eating and sugar reduction. Use of this is completely voluntary, and is an excellent starting point to aid you if you would like to push for this at your local school. Feel free to use this as a resource when suggesting strategies to tackle the issue. Feel free to modify this as it applies to your school.

Health Promotion Agency Resources

Excellent resources are available to order from the HPA website. All practitioners can order a bundle of posters and pamphlets for use in your practices, or to hand out to schools. This is a free service and the posters are also free.
