Introducing Implantology Into Your Dental Practice: A Practical, No-Nonsense Guide

Dental implants are rapidly becoming a standard offering in general practice. With countless courses available and social media often glamorising the process, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or unsure where to begin. Whether you're a principal dentist, practice owner, or associate, the key is knowing how to start—confidently, safely, and cost-effectively.

In this session, I’ll walk you through how to begin integrating implants into your workflow, how to identify suitable cases within your comfort zone, and how to gradually build your confidence and case portfolio—without overextending yourself or your patients.

Soo-Wee Ong is a specialist oral surgeon in full-time private practice in Dunedin, New Zealand. Since completing his specialist training in 2017, he has been passionate about bridging the gap between general dentistry and specialist care. With nearly a decade of experience in private general dental practice in Australia prior to specialising, Soo-Wee brings a unique perspective, having delivered oral surgical treatments in both general and specialist settings.

In 2022, he founded Origin Education—a platform dedicated to providing practical oral surgery training for dentists, with a focus on surgical extractions and implantology. His vision is to make oral surgery more accessible, efficient, and safe, empowering general dentists to confidently apply surgical skills in real-world clinical practice.
